Sometimes it is the little things that ground you into the immediate.
Edouard came home from pre-K with a scavenger list of things to get. The minutia isn't in getting the colouring crayons, felt markers, glue stick, binder, pencil case and scissors. It's not even sticking the mini labels on the top portion of EVERY crayon, the CAP and BODY of the markers, the top AND bottom of the glue stick, the SPINE of the binder, the side WIDTH of the pencil case and THE scissors as instructed by the teacher. It's the teacher accepting only a name label consisting of one initial capital letter followed with lower case letters. All caps confuse small children who cannot read...
Red tape is ubiquitous.
