Tongeren

We went antiquing in Tongeren. Fitting, as Tongeren is Belgium's oldest town. Invaded by Roman troops, the original locals successfully fought back under the leadership of Ambiorix. A statue commerates him in the town centre. Quizzed for the name of the local chieftain by a colleague, Hubby had answered Asterix... However, Caesar eventually conquered the area. Stone ramparts of the Roman settlement still remain.

"One man's junk is another man's treasure". As we walked through the antique market, I couldn't help but think that one man's junk is simply that, junk. I just do not have the patience to wade and sift through piles of bric à brac. We did happen on a beautiful black Murano glass chandelier in one of the side shops - new.
